Understand what surge protection is intended to do
A surge protective device (SPD) is designed to divert or limit certain transient overvoltages. It is not an alternative to correct earthing, circuit breakers or earth leakage protection, and it does not keep the house powered during an outage.
We ask what equipment is being protected, how the property is supplied and whether there is existing surge protection at the distribution board. The resulting specification should consider the electrical installation rather than choosing a device only by its headline rating.
