Garden Plant Pest & Disease Assessment: how we approach the work

01

Distinguish stress from pests or disease

Brown leaves can be caused by overwatering, root restriction, salty conditions, drought or wind exposure as well as insects or pathogens. We ask when the symptoms appeared, which plants are affected and whether the problem coincides with irrigation changes or fertiliser application. Photos of the whole plant and close-up symptoms help triage, but some cases need horticultural or laboratory identification. We do not promise a diagnosis from a single image or prescribe chemicals without identifying the cause.

02

Inspect the wider growing environment

A shrub that is repeatedly wet at the roots may deteriorate even when the visible leaves look dry. We consider drainage, soil compaction, shade, airflow and irrigation settings, alongside signs such as leaf spotting, honeydew or chewing damage. Closely packed planting can also change humidity and disease pressure. Correcting watering and pruning arrangements may be more useful than applying a general-purpose treatment to the leaves.

03

Recommend a proportional care plan

Where a pest is identified, the response may involve monitoring, selective removal of damaged material, a change to growing conditions or a species-appropriate treatment by a qualified person. We favour evidence-based integrated pest management rather than routine blanket pesticide application. Chemical products and certain regulated applications require proper labels, safety precautions and potentially registered specialists. We make referrals for large trees, suspected notifiable pests or complex disease management when needed.

04

Plan aftercare and monitor recovery realistically

Damaged foliage may not return to its original appearance; new growth and reduced spread of symptoms are better signs of improvement. Recovery depends on plant type, season and root health. We can discuss repeat inspections or a maintenance schedule, but no responsible gardener can guarantee every struggling plant will survive. Customers should avoid changing several products and watering settings at once, since it makes the true cause harder to understand.

Situations worth discussing

What the symptoms may mean

One hedge develops patches of yellow leaves

Assess local irrigation and root conditions as well as pests.

Leaves show sticky residue and visible insects

Identify the affected plant and pest before selecting treatment.

Newly planted shrubs wilt despite regular watering

Check drainage and planting depth, not only watering volume.

Planning & quotation

What affects the work and the quotation?

We agree on the inspection or installation scope before substantial changes proceed. Site conditions and product compatibility matter more than an unverified fixed price.
