Separate a blocked gully from a broken connection
A yard gully can overflow because its trap is obstructed, the downstream drain is restricted or an inlet branch has been damaged. We look at which fixtures discharge into it, whether flow backs up elsewhere and whether the standing water is waste or rainwater. Kitchen grease, leaves and construction debris can give different clues. Simply raising the gully grate or removing visible debris will not resolve a downstream break or reverse fall in the drain.
