Plug Point & Socket Repairs Cape Town

A loose, sparking or dead plug point is not a cosmetic issue. We inspect the fitting and its circuit so a replacement faceplate does not conceal damaged wiring or overloaded connections.

A loose, sparking or dead plug point is not a cosmetic issue.

Repairs, replacement and safe installation of faulty wall sockets, switches and additional power points.

01

When a socket becomes hot or stops working

Heat, scorch marks, crackling noises or a burning smell can indicate a poor connection, worn contact or overloaded circuit. Stop using an affected socket and avoid plugging in another appliance to test it repeatedly. A dead outlet could also indicate a circuit or protection issue elsewhere.

We compare the symptom with neighbouring outlets and the relevant distribution board circuit, then inspect and test as appropriate. The repair might be limited to a sound replacement fitting or could require correcting the connection and nearby wiring.

02

Adding outlets where people actually use electricity

A kitchen counter, office desk or television wall may need better outlet placement rather than permanent use of adaptors. New points must be planned for circuit demand, suitable protection, cable routes and safe distances from sinks or wet areas.

We discuss appliance positions, furniture and whether the wiring can be routed through an existing conduit. External additions and workshop sockets need different enclosures and mounting arrangements from ordinary internal points.

03

Why outlet type and environment matter

A socket that suits a dry bedroom is not necessarily appropriate beside irrigation equipment or in an exposed patio. Fitting selection should account for moisture, dust, mechanical damage and the intended connected equipment.

We also distinguish ordinary power points from dedicated circuits for high-demand equipment. A socket upgrade cannot make an undersized supply circuit suitable for a load it was not designed to carry.

04

Completion and safety checks

Our scope discussion covers the condition of the existing back box, faceplate, switch mechanism, earthing and surrounding cable. Cosmetic wall repairs may be required if a new fitting is larger or the old box is damaged.

After work, relevant electrical tests confirm that the outlet is correctly connected and protected. If the wider installation has unsafe conditions, those will be explained separately rather than silently overlooked.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about plug point & socket repairs

Why does one plug point work intermittently?

A worn contact or loose connection is possible, but a professional check is needed because overheating can occur.

Can I add a socket from an existing one?

Only after checking circuit load, protection, conductor sizing and the permissible connection method.

Can you replace old switches during a renovation?

Yes, as part of an assessed electrical scope with suitable fittings and safe isolation.
