Recognise whether the problem is stormwater or sewage
A downpipe that discharges into a blocked underground line can overflow during heavy rain while household toilets and sinks still drain normally. This is not the same diagnosis as a blocked sewer. We ask whether the issue appears only in rain, whether it involves roof gutters or paved courtyards, and where water eventually emerges. The defect may be leaves at a gulley, a collapsed fitting, inadequate fall or an outlet buried beneath landscaping. Identifying the water source avoids unnecessary work on the wrong drainage network.
